Ufuk Kucur completed his primary, middle and high-school education in Ankara. He first encountered the tesbih at the age of 13–14. What began as curiosity and interest gradually became a practice of making.
In 2013, he made his first tesbih using only sandpaper and olive pits. He still keeps this first piece today; for him, it marks the starting point of the journey.
While studying Mechanical Engineering at Pamukkale University, he continued making tesbihs. He earned his spending money through commissions, set up a small workshop and developed the craft semi-professionally during his student years.
He did not apprentice in the classical sense under a single master. Drawing on knowledge gathered from different makers, he built his own mastery through experimentation and production.
His engineering education changed the way he looked at the art of the tesbih. Engineering principles such as measurement, proportion, geometry and material joined the aesthetic understanding he had carried for years.
Today, he makes tesbihs from old and rare objects with precise calculations and an engineering perspective.
And he continues to learn, experiment and develop himself.
Because for him, the tesbih and mastery are a long journey without an end…
